Watershed Stewardship Kits

Be Good to Bozeman

In the Lower Gallatin Watershed, Bozeman’s rapidly increasing tourism industry adds to the existing stress on water quality and quantity within the watershed. The “Be Good to Bozeman” campaign is a coordinated “...effort to encourage sustainable tourism and a way to preserve the things we hold dear in Bozeman and the surrounding area, for generations to come.” A more informed tourist community can make positive contributions and connections with our rivers, streams, and public spaces.

The initial idea was to encourage and enable visitors to conduct self-lead river cleanups by providing individuals with watershed stewardship kits. Prime Marketing became interested in the project and expanded the partnership with Starry Night Lodging (Highline Adventures) and engaged other organizations in the Bozeman area to collaborate and start a city-wide campaign!

Gallatin Watershed Council’s contribution to the kits include: an informational rack card, stickers, dog poop bags, mesh bags, and gloves. The rack card depicts a map of the Lower Gallatin Watershed to orient visitors on where they are, describes sources of non-point source pollution in the area, City of Bozeman drinking water information, and shared best practices of stewardship.
