The Gallatin Watershed Council is proud to partner with community-minded businesses like Oboz Footwear who not only help folks enjoy the outdoors, but give back in a big way. From planting over 6.5 million trees worldwide to leading as a certified B Corp, Oboz truly walks the talk.
Here’s what we love:
They plant trees with us at GWC volunteer days (those Arbor Day smiles in the photos say it all!)
They believe in using business as a force for good
They support our mission as a valued Business Steward
Read the following Q&A and learn about Oboz and their sustainability initiatives.
Q&A:
1.What excites you the most about the work of the Gallatin Watershed Council?
GWC is devoted to the health and productivity of our local Gallatin Valley landscape and watershed. Our team loves participating in GWC’s volunteer opportunities as they do a terrific job of engaging the community and providing opportunities to learn more wetland health and habitat.
2. What is Oboz doing to protect the environment?
Since the start, Oboz Footwear has planted trees - today, that number surpasses 6.5 million. Through tree planting partners, across sub-Saharan Africa and North America, our tree planting initiatives help reduce pollution, reforest logged land, and improve the lives of farmers and families living in the developing world. This is something we’ve been doing since our start in 2007 and remains a priority in our brand mission. During the month of April, we amplify this initiative by hosting a global “Trails for Trees” challenge that promotes individuals to get outside and hike…every 1 mile = 1 tree planted.
3. What’s your favorite way of engaging with the community?
Hiking! Being a Bozeman based company, our love for hiking comes naturally as our backyard is filled with accessible trails. There is nothing that excites more than encouraging our community to get outside and to love hiking. From leading Bozeman-based hikes to getting folks outside across the country, our love for hiking runs deep and we love to share it beyond the walls of our office.
4. What is one thing you wish people knew more about your work?
One thing we wish resonated more with our consumer base is that we are B-Corp certified. Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are companies verified by B Lab – a third-party, non-profit organization – to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. B Corp Certification helps businesses act as a force for good. For those adventurers and trailblazers out there, this stringent accreditation means they can trust that we are constantly improving our standards for positive social and environmental impact.
5. Bonus question: What is your favorite tree and why?
Ponderosa Pine - Montana’s State Tree! See the photos of our team planting one at a GWC tree planting event back in April.
Thank you, Oboz! We’re grateful for your support of our work as a Business Steward and volunteer.
