Read the following Q&A to learn more about Lockhorn Cider and how they protect the Lower Gallatin Watershed.

Q&A:

1.What excites you the most about the work of the Gallatin Watershed Council?

I appreciate how GWC brings people together in our community for something we all share in - the appreciation and stewardship of our water resources.

2. What is Lockhorn Cider doing to protect the environment?

Keeping it local! When a product is grown, manufactured, and consumed locally, it requires less energy to transport and promotes community. As much as possible, we incorporate local apples & fruit into our cider. This includes apples from our local orchard and community in our Bozeman Backyard Blend, McIntosh apples from the Bitterroot, MT Flathead cherries in our Flathead Cherry cider, and other fruits like rhubarb, honeyberries, & plums into our small batch rotators.

In addition, Lockhorn Cider House is a highly efficient & sustainably designed refurbished farmhouse garage incorporating repurposed materials, a green roof, and an urban garden oasis of native wildflowers & trees. And our local orchard has about 300 growing & thriving apple trees.

3. What is your favorite way of engaging with the community?

I love the fall harvest where we collect local apples from the community to craft into the Bozeman Backyard Blend. We work with volunteers and landowners to harvest apples that would otherwise go to waste or attract bears and use those to make great tasting cider whose proceeds support local non-profits. The work is so fun and rewarding and I meet so many great people.

4. What is one thing you wish people knew more about your work?

Our people both at the bar and behind the scenes are so fantastic! Every person contributes to the team in their own unique way and fits their work at Lockhorn into a dynamic and interesting life. Each one is an absolute gem!

And, we have a growing number of people who met or has their 1st date at the Cider House and have gotten married <3

5. Bonus question: What is your favorite way to enjoy apples (besides cider)?

I love sliced apples with cheese. I’ll bet I eat more than “an apple a day” this way :-)
