Introducing Spring Creek Farms
“One of the things that our late grandfather and our late father always wanted was to restore the natural flowing creeks that run through this property. This is why we’ve partnered with GWC, to finish a desire of the men who taught us how to care for the land.” - Nick and Tim Venhuizen
The Gallatin Watershed Council is excited to be working with Tim and Nick Venhuizen to restore almost 3 miles of creek on their family-owned and operated farm, just south of Manhattan. Spring Creek Farms is our biggest restoration project to date!
Spring Creek and Camp Creek are small but vital tributaries to the Gallatin River. They flow north through the Venhuizen property and are flanked by potato fields first planted by the brothers' father and grandfather back in the 1970s.
Through time, as land use in the valley continued to change, the Venhuizens also noticed changes to their beloved creeks. Their father began to dream of restoring Spring Creek and Camp Creek to the cherished fishing spots they once were. After his passing in 2023, Tim and Nick took over the farm and committed to restoring the creeks, just as their father had always wanted.
We are proud to help the Venhuizen brothers turn this vision into a reality. Check back next week to learn about the current state of the creeks and how GWC and the landowners are working together to improve them!
